A New Year :)

Since Beau's most recent hospital visit I haven't blogged at all and realized it was time for a December update as we start the new year; yes a January post or two will be on it's way shortly, too!  Happy 2015! :)

After Beau's malnutrition scare, he was in the hospital for over a week, getting his electrolytes and potassium where it needed to be and he was home the following Wednesday after Thanksgiving.  Yes, Beau spent his second Thanksgiving in the hospital.  The nurses in the PICU and I joked that they could have him for Thanksgivings if I got him for Christmas! ;) I sure hope this is not becoming a yearly tradition.

The day we were discharged from the hospital he started popping up on all 4's and rocking!!! We are thrilled about his milestone as it took Beau so long to even get push on his arms... crawling here we come!

A week later, we had to bring him back to the ER.  He woke up at 3am screaming and was inconsolable.  If you know Beau he rarely cries and only whines when he's tired so we knew something was not right.... I immediately thought he must have an ear infection as he did not want to be laid down.  So at 4:20, Andrew woke up and decided to bring him to the hospital as I had to be up at 5:30 to get ready for work. Well after a series of vomiting episodes at the ER and then discovering his GJ tube would not flush (meaning no milk or warm water would go through is tube to feed him), they moved Beau to the PICU for an emergent procedure to replace his GJ tube... yes anesthesia and intubation. :(  The procedure went very well and he was home later that afternoon.  We still have no idea why he was screaming early that morning, either he was constipated or had a reaction to the chocolate Pediasure I had given the night before; so we're sticking with vanilla from here on out!

He's now home again... and most importantly, getting the correct formula!!  He still has a nasty cough from the breathing tube which has now lasted for over 2 months... :(  Hoping to have a fully healthy boy soon!  He started taking pureed food again at the end of December and we've been rotating every 3 days trying new foods.  We sit him in the high chair when we're cooking and at the table with us when we're eating to help create food interest.  Occupational therapy, with emphasis on feeding, started back up in December as well. She told us to let him try anything and everything we're eating to introduce him to all sorts of tastes!  So far it's gone well with pears, apples, bananas, sweet potatoes, spaghetti sauce, and peaches.  Not so much with the spam! ;)

Prior to Christmas day we also took a visit to the Bass Pro Shop to visit Santa. He got to ride the carousel, look at the fishes too!  The decision to do this took some serious consideration. If you know me, I struggle with the whole "Santa thing" but I've realized that whether we decide to do the Santa thing or not, Santa is still part of the holiday season.  Beau will know the history of St. Nicholas but Jesus will remain the focus and reason for the season!

We spent a very low key holiday at home, just the three of us.  Being military we don't get to travel home every year for the holidays and this year nobody came our way, so we started some traditions of our own to make the day special, enjoyed Upward's Christmas Eve service, and opened presents Christmas morning.

I fixed up a lil heart ornament to remember February 4, 2014 - Beau's heart surgery!

By mid-December Beau had his full strength back and was sitting up again on his own (he lost that for about a month). Once steady, we moved him to sitting up in his infant bath tub though he's not quite interested in bath toys yet.   He got his 15 month well check and weighed 23 pounds, 14 ounces and was 30.5 inches. He enjoyed his first ride on the swings at the neighborhood park a few days after Christmas; we enjoyed some sunny 60+ degree weather. His first tooth arrived on December 30th!  Beau has discovered my hair and glasses and he snatches them off my face fast! He squawks at himself in the mirror! He loves to give kisses and comes at us with his mouth open and tongue out!

We had a Pajama party for New Years Eve with our friends Laura, Andrew, Isaac, and Baby. :)  We played our favorite game, Ticket to Ride, and rang in the new year with s'mores and champagne!

That about sums up the month!  Blessings to your families in 2015!
